HOW TO ORDER DEK Drain?
Q: What is the
DEK Drain UNDERSIDE®
Economy system?
A: DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® is a new building product designed to capture and
direct water which penetrates through an elevated deck, thereby keeping
the area under the deck dry!
DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® similar to our original DEK Drain
product.
However, DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® is modified for installation on EXISTING
DECKS (installed from the under-side of a deck). The complete DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® system includes:
a. DEK Drain UNDERSIDE panels
b. DEK Drain UNDERSIDE diversion flanges
c. DEK Drain UNDERSIDE headwater flashing (for capturing and directing water which
runs down the sidewall of the house and onto the deck).

Q: If
DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® is attached to the bottom edge of my deck
joists, will I lose head room under my deck?
A: The panels of our DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® system come to you
along with
mounting strips, usually a wooden strip measuring ½"x 1-1/2"
or ¾" x 1-1/2", for ease of installation. The panels near the
ledger board will hang down approximately ½" below the bottom edge
of the joists. At the discharge end, the center trough of the panel will
fall approximately two inches below the bottom edge of the joists.

Q: How much of the area under my deck can I keep dry with the
DEK DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® system?
A: Generally, the area best able to be covered will be the area
defined by the length of run of the joists from the ledger board
(usually attached to the house) to the beam. The joists normally rest on
the top edge of the beams. Because DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® is attached to the
bottom edge of the joists, the terminal end of the DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® panels
will meet the beam approximately two inches below the top edge of the
beam. A gutter system is usually mounted to the inside face of the beam
to collect the water discharging from the panels.

Q: Is it difficult to install the
DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® system? Can I do it
myself or must I hire a contractor?
A: Our DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® system has been designed for
fast and easy installation by
either the homeowner or a professional contractor. Complete
installation instructions are included in each shipment.
The drain panels are pre-cut
and self-forming. Simply line up the edges of the panels with the
outside edge of the joists and staple in place. A compression flange
completes the installation and pulls the system tightly together.

Q: What is the cost of the
DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® system?
A: Our DEK Drain
UNDERSIDE® system sells for
$3.99/sf for 16" o.c.
framing. The sf (square foot) figure is derived by multiplying the
length and width of the area to be covered. Thus, if the area to be
covered is 10' by 20', this would be 200 sf. Multiplied by the cost of
$3.99/sf, this DEK Drain UNDERSIDE® system would sell for $798.00. Taxes (where
applicable) and shipping charges are extra. For framing 12" o.c.,
the DEK Drain UNDERSIDE®
system sells for $4.49/sf.
Q: What makes DEK Drain better than a
competing product?
A: DEK Drain was developed to be user friendly and to endure.
There are a few other products on the market which profess to keep the
area under your deck dry. DEK Drain installs quickly and easily without
the use of any caulk, adhesive, glue or solvent of any sort. DEK Drain can be installed in any weather, including wet or below-freezing
weather. Another of the many advantages of the DEK Drain system is the
lack of joints. We fabricate panels up to 24' in length with no breaks
or joints in the run of the panels. All during our trials, whenever we
experimented with a joint detail, the panels would leak. DEK Drain HAS
NO JOINTS! Competing products either require one or more joints or
simply limit your choice to one finite length with no allowance for
increasing the length of run. Further, most competing products are
available in limited parts of the United States only and are priced much
higher than the DEK Drain system. Additionally, they are more difficult
to install. Some require that only their own contractors may do the
installation.
HOW TO ORDER
DEK Drain
Ordering DEK Drain is easy!
There are only four dimensions needed to place your order. You need
to know:
- The length of the ledger board for calculating the amount of
headwater flashing needed to flash your job. If there is more than one
run (such as where the deck meets the house at more than one contact
point) we would need to know that. A simple sketch of the deck layout
with dimensions is helpful. Please indicate the location of the house on
the drawing and the direction in which the joists are oriented.
- The number of bays in the deck. A bay is the area between 2
joists.
For 16" o.c. framing, the bay will measure 14-1/2" inside to
inside.
For 12" o.c. framing, the bay will measure 10-1/2" inside to
inside.
- The length of the joists in each bay rounded to the nearest foot
(round UP only). If one joist is longer than the other due to the shape
of the deck, take the measurement from the longer joist.
- Indicate if the framing of your deck is 12" on center,16"
or 24" on center.
- If your deck is unusual and doesn't
fit into the above categories, please fax a simple drawing of your
deck (it doesn't need to be to scale) along with your information to
our toll free fax number 1-888-819-3232. We will get back to you with
a written proposal for your system.
Once we have the information as described above, we will put together
the materials necessary to complete your individual job. We will ship
the materials to you already pre-cut, sized and ready for your speedy
installation!
